Spirituality - a bondage!

Disciple:
How do you explain the situation of spirituality today?
Master:
Some are chained with unobserved  chains. So don't grow.
disciple:
what chains?
Master:
A man highly trained in theology and spirituality and not progressing in his spiritual life is
like a man who was tied with a rope to his large coat but could perform rather well in his daily duties.
He was given a beautiful box and was told to use it any way for his progress.
He said since he is tied up he can use it as a seat to sit and work and take rest.
He became accustomed to it and lived for a long time.
After 50 years of this life he thought of opening the box.
And he found a box full of beautiful scissors.

A spiritual seeker often don't see what is needed to make him really happy.

Anthony de Mello Rediscovering Life Pt3 3 of 8

Happiness

disciple:
Master, show me how to be happy.
master:
Unless you actively make yourself unhappy, you will be happy.
disciple
How?
master:
Because you are born happy, you are basically happy.
The society, your family have trained you to be unhappy.
You were taught that to be happy means to be approved, to be successful, to win,
in short to have is to be happy.
Once you see this you will be happy.
This seeing may take one min or years!

Respond to love

A disciple :
Master, we Christians have commandments to love God and neighbour.

Master:
How can you have a commandment to love?
disciple :
They are in the scripture.
Master :
If you have commandment to love you may get obedience and not love.
disciple:
Then how do we respond to this so called "commandment?"
Master :
When some one loves you, you can respond that love.
God loved us first and so you may love Him as a response to that love. Don't take it as a commandment.
